Workaround: Opera developer 28 crash loop on MacOS 10.7 and 10.8

EDIT: We have released an updated build with this fixed. Use the Opera developer for Mac network installer to upgrade (autoupdate from the broken build will not work).

Unfortunately it seems that we missed a nasty crash that happens for users of MacOS X 10.7 and 10.8 (when running Opera developer 28.0.1747.0). The crash happens on startup and is caused by a change we made for our updated address bar.

We already have a fix internally, which should appear in the next developer release. In the mean time, here is a workaround for those affected:

  • Open the Terminal application.
  • Copy and paste the following into the terminal and press Enter (Opera will open in the background):
/Applications/Opera\ Developer.app/Contents/MacOS/Opera --with-feature:experimental-addressbar=false
  • Once Opera is running open opera://flags/#experimental-addressbar and set it to disabled
  • Shut down Opera and start it again normally

P.S. When the next update to Opera developer comes out remember to switch this flag back to its default setting.
